Alberta's Water Resources: Our Opportunities

"In the future, Water will be more important to Albertans than oil and gas"
Peter Lougheed

We believe that Alberta has a wide range of water challenges and opportunities, from agriculture and heavy industrial use, to preservation of our natural environment, to ensuring a safe secure supply of drinking water.

This gives us a wide range of technical and policy issues and opportunities from which to create innovative solutions.

The Alberta Task Force on Sustainable Communities concluded that access to water was identified as the limiting factor in sustainable development of rural Alberta communities.

Alberta has developed the Water for Life strategy that shows the political will and commitment in our province to more effectively manage our precious water resources.

The Water for Life strategy stressed the need for:
o A safe, secure drinking water supply
o A healthy aquatic ecosystem
o Reliable quality water supplies for a sustainable economy

These are critical goals. We also believe that public and private partnerships can take the lead in the commercial development of innovative water management pratices and technologies, and export these solutions to the world. Alberta corporations and individuals have the financial resources, awareness and understanding to support this long term initiative to build our competencies in water management for the benefit of future generations.

We encourage you to learn more about our programs and opportunities, our partnerships, and how you can become more involved in making Alberta the next world leader in water management solutions!
